Annual inflation stands at 1.54 pct

Consumer prices rose by 0.12 percent in Sept. 2014 compared to Aug. 2014, with the inflation standing at 1.54 percent compared to Sept. 2013, according to the data the National Statistics Institute (INS) released on Friday.  Average price increases overall, over the past 12 months (Oct. 2013 – Sept. 2014) compared to the previous 12 months (Oct. 2012 – Sept. 2013), against the consumer price index is 1.2 percent and 1.3 percent against the harmonized index of consumer prices, the INS release reads. ‘The harmonized index of consumer prices is 100.11 percent in September 2014 compared to the previous month and 101.85 percent compared to September 2013,’ INS reports.  For this year, the National Bank of Romania (BNR) established an inflation target of 2.5 percent plus/minus one percentage point. The central bank has downwardly adjusted to 2.2 percent the end-2014 inflation projection. The previous projection announced in May by BNR for end-2014 was 3.3 percent.
