FCC Construcción SA, 10 years in Romania, building the future…

FCC Construcción is present in Romania since 2004 through its local subsidiary and participates at the development of the Romanian infrastructures.
FCC began his activity in Romania having major collaboration with the Romanian National Company of Motorways and National Roads (RNCMNR) for the construction or rehabilitations of roads, bypasses or motorways. During its 10 years on the market, FCC has completed more than 250 km of National Roads Rehabilitation all over the country in counties as: Gorj, Timis, Arad, Cluj, Baia Mare and 100 km of bypasses and motorways in Timisoara, Arad, Constanta and Bucharest.
On July 2006, only 2 years after starting its activity in Romania, FCC Construcción was awarded with the Contract for the execution of the most emblematic structure ever constructed in the country, the Basarab Overpass in Bucharest which was inaugurated in the summer of 2011, becoming one of the symbols of the capital. The Overpass is the largest cable stayed bridge built in the history of the country and was awarded in 2012 with the Quality Toffee by the Romanian Association of Construction Entrepreneurs.
Aiming to extend its field of activity in Romania and to bring its added value to the Romanian infrastructure sector, FCC has tendered projects launched by other Contracting Authorities too, as Metrorex – the Metropolitan Agency of Bucharest and CFR SA – Romanian National Railways Company. Therefore, on 2011 FCC has commenced the works for the Bucharest Metro Line 5 meaning 7 km of double tunnel with 9 new stations, becoming again pioneers by bringing for the first time in Romania – the technology of excavation with Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM).
The year 2012 – FCC has added into its portfolio two contracts of major importance for the Romanian National Railways Company “CFR SA” who awarded FCC with two railways rehabilitation Contracts for the line Brasov – Simeria, sections Sighisoara – Atel (28,26 km) and Atel – Micasasa (29,6 km), both being part of the project of modernization of Corridor IV Pan European to upgrade a speed up to 160 km/h.
The strategy of the company for the next years is to continue diversifying its portfolio of projects, entering in new fields of activity as water sector, airports, building, etc.
During all its 10 years of activity in Romania the company demonstrated from the beginning a strong interest in hiring local personnel in all its projects. In this way, depending on the undergoing projects of each year, FCC created yearly more than 1500 jobs. Due to the good collaboration with the local employees and the loyalty cultivated by the management of the company in Romania, in most of cases, the staff teams were relocated from project to project, having today Romanian employees with 7, 8 years in the company.
Getting every day better known, in all this recent past time, FCC succeeded to become a brand name synonym of quality and performance in Romania, being now one of the most important players on the infrastructure market, wishing to continue building the future and to be a reliable partner for the Romanian Authorities in their aim of development.
