Private pension funds managing 4.25 bln euros worth of assets

The Romanian-based private pension funds are managing 4.25 billion euros worth of assets, with 94 percent of the investments being made in Romania, according to end-Sept. figures unveiled by leading officials of the Association for the Privately Managed Pensions in Romania at a specialised conference on Monday. Around 75-80 percent of the portfolio structure is accounted for by low-risk financial instruments; the private pension funds hold 11 percent of the Romanian government bonds, with preference being towards long maturities, which leads to curbed volatility at times of turbulence.
The private pension funds have placed 700 million euros on the Bucharest Stock Exchange, which makes them the biggest local institutional investors and provide over 10 percent of the Stock Exchange average liquidity, playing a crucial role in the success of the recent public offerings and being a balance factor on the secondary stock market.
