Miron Mitrea gets two year prison sentence

The Supreme Court sentenced PSD MP Miron Mitrea to two years in prison in a corruption case, but the decision is not final
Judges of the Supreme Court decided to sentence Miron Mitrea to two years in prison for bribery, plus a prohibition of rights after sentence, all for a period of two years.
The Court acquitted Mitrea on the count of incitement to the commission of forgery and discontinued criminal proceedings in his case for forgery.
By the same sentence, the Court ordered the seizure of 169,440 lei from Mitrea and maintained the distraint introduced by prosecutors.
In the same case, Irina Paula Jianu, former head of the State Construction Inspectorate, was sentenced to five months in prison for bribery.
Nicolae Popescu, former chief architect of Voluntari Municipality, received a sentence of five months in prison for forgery of documents and two months for aiding and abetting. The court decided to combine these sentences with another one of three years in prison, from another case, that has already been served.
In this case, Miron Mitea, Minister of Public Works, Transport and Housing in 2000 – 2004, currently PSD member of Parliament, was charged with taking a bribe of 520,000 lei in the form of works performed at his mother’s house, in return for keeping Irina Jianu in her positions as Deputy Chief Inspector and later Chief Inspector of ISC.
