The European Parliament yesterday approved the European Commission headed by Jean-Claude Juncker 423 to 209 votes and 67 abstentions.
The commissioner designated by Romania is Corina Cretu, who received the Regional Policy portfolio. She received a positive opinion from the REGI Committee after hearings on October 1. Junker stressed the new European Executive would have ‘a different image’ and ‘a new working manner’. The vote of the European Parliament will be followed by a vote of the heads of state and government in the European Council, which is just formal, therefore the new Commission will start its five-year term on November 1.
