Oprea: “In two weeks of campaigning, four times fewer incidents than in 2009”

Interior Minister Gabriel Oprea, announced on Wednesday that up to half of the electoral campaign for the presidential elections there were four times fewer incidents than the last electoral campaign five years ago.
According to the Minister, if half of the campaign five years ago were recorded nationally, 429 incidents, this year in two weeks, have been reported only 99.Most complaints regarding incidents of this fall came from the Police, while five years ago, most were from political parties.
Minister Gabriel Oprea also said that in the first two weeks of the campaign were applied 44 sanctions in the amount of 29,700 lei. Most incidents, 60% were related to electoral posters, namely to destroy, damage, dirt posters and posting them in places other than those authorized, without the written consent of the owners, said the official.
“Regarding criminal acts there were reported 25 offenses, three times less than in the 2009 campaign, when there were 77, said Oprea. “Following investigations carried out so far, 10 people are questioned, without being required detention or arrest them (…) The main conclusion of how did the campaign went so far, is that there were no violent events which have seriously disturbed public order “, the Minister of Interior. So far, 282 electoral events in 207 localities in 33 counties and in Bucharest have taken place in the campaign. All these events took place without incidents to endanger the democratic exercise of the right to free expression of opinions or requiring police intervention, said Gabriel Oprea.
Ministry of Interior (MoI) has mobilized nationally 30,000 employees to comply with the law during the election campaign. The public police squat is made up of 17,000 police officers, about 10,000 policemen and over 3,800 border guards. According to Oprea, forces number will increase to 50,000 employees of MAI on the day of the vote, or whenever the operative situation will require further mobilization.
