Early winter in mid autumn: Extreme weather, nightmare traffic

October 25, 2014 will remain in history of the weather measurements as the coldest day in several towns of the south, including Bucharest. However, in Bucharest, October 25, 2014 will remain also the day with the earliest snowfall. The snow layer  was 10 cm. at  Baneasa station on Saturday, said meteorologist Michael Timu. Weatherman explained that this episode of bad weather were to be completed as of Sunday afternoon, when rainfalls will narrow to the western basin of the Black Sea.
Meteorologists had issued Saturday a code yellow snow warning, between 19:00 and 01:00 for Bucharest, Ilfov, Giurgiu, Virginia, West counties Calarasi and Ialomita. Spokesman for the Emergency Situations Inspectorate Bucharest, Daniel Vasile, said that from Friday 14.00 until Saturday morning in several areas of the capital were felled by strong winds 132 trees that severely damaged more than 60 cars.
Road traffic on the A2 motorway Bucharest – Constanta was closed Saturday from 20.00 to 24.00, for the snow removal equipment to clear snow deposited on the road. More cars entered Saturday in a collision on Highway A1, the meaning to Constanta. About 20 vehicles collided due to ice on the road.  More cars have been damaged on both sides of Highway of the Sun, in the village Lehliu.
Because of delayed reaction in starting operations with snow removal equipment, the management of National Company of Motorways and National Roads (CNADNR) decided that Chief of National Roads Bucuresti Sud, Lucian Stan, be suspended and disciplinary investigated, as well as others responsible for these delays on the A2 motorway.
Prime Minister Victor Ponta said yesterday  he was pleased with how the authorities have acted , both in Bucharest and on the main roads in the country. Ponta admits he has been taken by surprise that winter came early this year, more so since National Meteorological Administration has not provided any warning to this day. “First, I congratulate General Mayor, who coordinated activities in Bucharest. I saw that everything was done with efficiency. Equally, Mr. Deputy Dragnea together with CNADNR coordinated actions with snow removal and as we do from now on, “said Ponta. “We are ready, we’ll take action, but it is going to continue to snow and snow can not be stopped by the government,” added the Prime Minister.
