“TIAD’s strategy is to be a permanent player in strengthening the economic relations between Turkey and Romania”

Says Mr.Aykut Akbulut, CEO of Turkish Businessmen Association (TIAD)

Romania and Turkey are  very good friends, bounded by history, with common regional interests in the Balkans and  at the Black Sea, they are partners in all international bodies, they both have strong economic potentials, thus, the two countries have  all the conditions to continue to write the success story of an excellent and dynamic bilateral economic cooperation. What is TIAD role in this aspect?
TIAD is an important organization in the development of bilateral Romanian-Turkish relations, not only in trade and economic fields, but also in social, educational, cultural and political fields. Based on its collaboration with governmental and nongovernmental institutions and associations, TIAD puts its entire energy to be a permanent source of information and documentation regarding economy, legislations, rules and relations between our two countries.
What are TIAD motto and philosophy?
TIAD is focused on doing business in reciprocal interests and benefits in a long term friendship climate. Turkish businessmen are present in Romania for a long term, many of them became Romanians (Romanian citizenship), and many of them are married here and have children. They are at home in Romania.
TIAD is always promoting Turkey in Romania and Romania in Turkey, within organized Economic Forums, bilateral and/or multilateral meetings and symposiums. Recently TIAD organized an Economic Forum in Bucharest with participation of Prime Minister Ponta, Minister of Economy from Turkey, Romanian ministers and around 350 businessmen from both countries. TIAD participated to the meeting of the World Association of Turkish Businessmen where it presented the possibilities of business and investments in Romania.
Turkish business community is one of the most important and numerous business communities in Romania. Why do you think the Turkish businessmen are so attracted by Romania besides the geographic proximity between the two countries?
The most important factor in attracting Turkish businessmen and Turkish investments in Romania is the long traditional political, cultural, social and economic relation between our two people, independent of the political governments, regional or/and international climate/environment. We always were, are and will be friends.
Turkish businessmen are in the top of foreign investors in Romania and bring added value with their businesses in this very dynamic and attractive market and business environment. Beyond all the others very positive and constructive achievements so far in order to support Turkish businessmen interests here, what is TIAD strategy ahead in order to make the Turkish business community more visible in Romania?
As I mentioned before TIAD’s strategy is to be a permanent player in strengthening and developing the economic relations between Turkey and Romania. TIAD is an opened map for Turkish businessmen who want to do business or to invest here. .TIAD is promoting Romania as a friendly and secure place to do business, to invest money and to live. Issuing yearly a Guide regarding Romania’s legislation, economic situation, cultural life, domestic and international trade, meeting tens of delegations coming from Turkey and putting them in contact with Romanian companies and associations and numerous other actions. TIAD’s fulfilment is its role as an important actor in development of bilateral relation.
How could TIAD involve better in helping Romania and Turkey to strengthen their excellent bilateral economic cooperation and to extend their economic presence on third markets?
TIAD considers that its request to become an organization of public utility will help to increase and diversify its contribution to development and diversification of bilateral relation.
Since its creation, TIAD has been one of the most active businessmen associations acting in Romania and one of the strongest voices among foreign investors  in the dialogue with the Romanian authorities in order to support the interests of foreign investors here. How often does the Turkish Businessmen Association initiate such talks with the Romanian Government for discussing facilities for the healthy development of the business environment?
As often as it is necessary, by meeting with representatives of the governmental and nongovernmental organizations. With the support of the Turkish Embassy in Bucharest and as a result of the numerous meetings between top level representatives of both countries, our role has to be more efficient in promoting our relations.
Romania and Turkey share a common history, common traditions, but also joint regional economic interests, the energy and transports  being among the most important fields in the bilateral economic cooperation. What steps should be done by Governments and also by the business communities from the two countries in order to open much more development opportunities in these two important fields not only bilaterally, but also regionally?
The most important steps should be taken in supporting Turkish and Romanian businessmen and investors in learning Romanian and European Union legislation, in simplifying bureaucracy, in speeding up negotiations of important projects-mainly in energy  field .
