Heightened international interest for Tarnita-Lapustesti power plant

The project team of the Tarnita hydropower plant announces the extension of the deadline for the filing of documents needed for the pre-qualification stage and the preliminary and non-committal negotiation stage, in view of the CHEAP Tarnita-Lapustesti Project, from 31 October 10 a.m. to November 27, 10 a.m.
The construction of the Tarnita-Lapustesti Pumped-Storage Hydropower Plant (CHEAP), the first plant of its kind in Romania, represents a top priority goal of the short and medium-term energy sector development strategy included in Romania’s Energy Strategy 2007-2020.
The project is essential against the backdrop of the existence of a continuously growing portfolio of power plants based on renewable energy sources, with uncontrollable production, which calls for the installing of supplementary capacities for the balancing of the National Electricity System (SEN), which will be paid on the technological services markets, capacities markets, but also on the rebalancing market.
The investment in the pumped-storage hydropower plant will lead to the creation of an important number of jobs and the hiking of living standards in the area. A peak of employment, over 4,000 jobs, would be reached during the construction of the project, construction works being estimated to start in the first part of 2016 and to last 5 to 7 years.
