Titus Corlatean: ‘My proposal is to make statutory declaration available before voting day, on a website’

Foreign Affairs Minister Titus Corlatean yesterday said that he proposed the Central Electoral Bureau (BEC) representatives that the statutory declaration should be made available for the electors on the internet before the voting day and signed afterwards, in front of the polling station president. ‘I came up with a series of proposals that I reiterated when invited by the BEC president to do so – related to the procedure adjustment in the case of the statutory declaration that the voter needs to fill in – namely to make that form available on a website before voting day (…), so that it could be downloaded in time, filled in before the voting day and signed in the presence of the polling station chairman,’ Corlatean said after the meeting with the BEC representatives.
The situation created at the polling stations abroad, where Romanian nationals waited in long lines to vote and even ended up without being able to cast a ballot, was caused by the absence of political party representatives who failed to show up on the morning of the vote and by the rather lengthy anti-fraud procedures, Foreign Minister Titus Corlatean explained Monday.
