Nicusor Constantinescu arrested for 30 days

The suspended President of Constanta County Council, Nicusor Constantinescu landed at Henri Coanda Airport in Bucharest on a flight from Istanbul yesterday and was taken by the police to the Bucharest Tribunal for the confirmation of his arrest warrant.
“I want to give a statement, that is why I have come. The reality is different. The cases at DNA Constanta and DNA Bucharest are cases for which I was detained, with a lot of noise and media coverage. Subsequently, two courts let me walk on account of insufficient evidence,” Constantinescu stated, revealing that he has prostate cancer.
Nicu?or Constantinescu was incarcerated in the Bucharest Police lockups. He will either remain there or will be moved to a prison hospital according to the medical opinion on his state of health.
Constantinescu was referred to justice by the anti-corruption prosecutors in three criminal cases. He was detained by the Turkish authorities on Tuesday, after the Ministry of Justice had sent the necessary documents for bringing him back into the country to be remanded in custody in his different cases. Before Turkey, N. Constantinescu had been in the US where he had surgery.
Yesterday, at the PSD headquarters, Constanta Mayor Radu Mazare said that, in N. Constantinescu’s case, DNA scored ‘a big victory against a person with cancer’ who had been ‘chased and oppressed’ for half a year. ‘The Americans said he should stay there and receive treatment, Romanian prosecutors and Justice said it doesn’t matter’, Mazare added.
At the closing of our edition, the Court of Bucharest confirmed having issued an arrest mandate for 30 days, for Nicusor Constantinescu.
