MAE hails successful testing of parts of U.S. ballistic missile system

Romania’s Foreign Ministry (MAE) is hailing the successful testing of parts of the US ballistic missile defence system, reports Agerpres.

‘The Foreign Ministry is hailing the successful conduct on November 6, 2014, of a new test on an M3 Block I B interceptor, the likes of which will be deployed at the Deveselu Base [south-western Romania]. The test, conducted by the US Missile Defense Agency has reconfirmed the efficiency of the Aegis ballistic missile defence system and the capability of SM3 Block IB interceptors to engage and destroy enemy targets. At the same time, the test demonstrated the way in which the interceptor destroys an enemy ballistic missile, which is by force of kinetic energy exclusively,’ MAE reports in a press release issued on Friday.

MAE also says the test is a significant argument backing up the efficiency of the Aegis ballistic missile defence system and a confirmation for on schedule deployment of the second stage in the US European Phased Adaptive Approach (EPAA), which entails the commissioning of the missile defence facility at the Deveselu Base somewhere in 2015.

‘As part of the EPAA, the Deveselu Base will be Romania’s contribution to the architecture of the missile defence system developed by NATO,’ reads the MAE release.
