Ponta says Dragnea to lead PSD until congress next February

Social Democrat (PSD) chairman Victor Ponta said in Suceava (north-east of Bucharest) on Friday that PSD executive president Liviu Dragnea will lead the party until a congress is organised in next February most likely, informs Agerpres.

The prime minister said that immediately after he becomes president of Romania, he will step down as PSD head and will give the party leadership up to Dragnea and Secretary-General Andrei Dolineaschi.

‘After I am elected president of Romania, I will certainly resign the position of PSD president. According to the PSD Statutes, the one who takes up the president’s tasks until the congress, to be probably held in February, is the Executive President, Mr Dragnea and the Secretary-General, Mr Dolineaschi’, Ponta announced.
