Almost 29,000 Romanians have traded on stock exchange

A number of 28,942 Romanians have traded on the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) in the first half of 2014, covering 31 per cent of the stock exchange’s total turnover of RON 12.44 bln, according to a BVB survey.
During the aforementioned period, 589 Romanian institutional investors, 589 institutional and individual investors from the European Union, 116 investors from the US and 93 investors from other states also traded on the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB), BVB Deputy Director General Anca Dumitru pointed out.
Romanian investors have covered 58.26 per cent of the value traded on the BVB in the first six months of 2014, of which physical persons covered 31 per cent and institutional investors 27 per cent, while foreign investors covered 41.74 per cent of the total turnover. EU investors covered 34 per cent, US investors 6 per cent and other investors almost 2 per cent.
The BVB survey was based on the reports filed by brokerage houses which covered 99.76 per cent of BVB’s total turnover in H1 of 2014.
In contrast, on the Istanbul Stock Exchange foreign investors covered 21 per cent of the turnover in H1 this year, on the Warsaw Stock Exchange 45-49 per cent in the two halves of 2013, and on the Athens Stock Exchange 20 per cent in 2012 and 50 per cent in 2013.
