One in four Romanians owns auto vehicle

The statistic does not outline the discrepancies between urban and rural areas, between rich and poor families.
According to the statistics compiled by specialized institutions, currently one in four Romanians owns an auto vehicle. Or, bearing in mind that an average Romanian family is made up of three persons (at a population of approximately 20 million citizens), one can say that each family owns an auto vehicle.
According to the data offered by the Driving Licenses and Vehicle Registration Directorate (DRPCIV), at the end of 2013 the national auto park totaled approximately 5.98 million units, up by 4.73 per cent compared to the same period last year. Of this, approximately 4.7 million units were passenger cars. Of the total number of passenger cars, over 3.32 million had gasoline engines and 2.35 million had diesel engines. At the same time, 1.91 million vehicles were older than 6-10 years, and 1.42 million vehicles were 11-15 years old. Almost 1.14 million vehicles were more than 20 years older.
Naturally, the statistic does not take into account the discrepancy between living standards and income in urban and rural areas, nor the discrepancies created in recent decades between rich families (ever fewer) and poor families (increasingly numerous).
