Romania to provide protection for Canadian citizens on the Syrian territory

Romania and Canada on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding under which Romania will provide consular services to the Canadian state and citizens on Syrian territory, reads a Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) press release  sent to Agerpres.

According to the abovementioned source, signed at the MAE headquarters, Romania committed through its consular office in Syria to protect the interests of the Canadian citizens as long as they are on this state territory, as well as the interests of the Canadian state.

‘The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hails the conclusion of the agreement that reflects the current stage of excellence bilateral relations between Romania and Canada, grounded on trust, common values and the principles of a solid partnership. Similar agreements were also previously concluded with France, the Republic of Moldova and Australia, countries that also don’t have consular officess in Syria,” specified MAE.
