Basescu might become the PMP president on March 21, 2015

Three months after quitting the supreme position in the state at the end of his term as Romania’s President, Traian Basescu might become president of the People’s Movement Party (PMP) at the party’s Congress scheduled for March 21, 2015.

According to Agerpres, the PMP’s national leader Elena Udrea announced in Baile Tusnad on Saturday that in the meantime, the party’s National Executive Council will adopt a document next week to address Traian Basescu a formal invitation to join PMP project.

“We discussed and decided that during the next week’s National Executive Council to adopt a document in which to firmly state on behalf of the PMP, our will to continue the projects started during President Basescu’s mandate, the further support of the principles and values related to the two mandates of Traian Basescu’s two mandates as head of state, and also a formal invitation to President Basescu to join the People’s Movement project,” said Elena Udrea.

It is no secret that the PMP awaits Traian Basescu with open arms, the incumbent Romanian President being seen by the party’s leaders as an engine for the local elections of 2016, when  PMP targets a very good score.
