The Directorate for the Investigation of Organised Crimes and Terrorism (DIICOT) has solved over 64,500 cases since its establishment, of which approx., Ro 10,000 with indictment, according to a release by this institution sent to Agerpres. 93 cases were solved through plea bargaining agreement. Likewise, 30,831 persons were indicted, while the number of the remanded persons counts for 14,783. The value of the precautionary measures reaches 5,205,937,914 lei (1 euro=4,4 lei). DIICOT has seized 3.5 tonnes of heroin /cocaine, 5 tonnes of cannabis /cannabis resin, 500,000 pills of synthetic drugs (Ecstasy, LSD and other) and 4 tonnes of precursors. On the DIICOT 10th anniversary, plaques were handed in to partners and diplomas to prosecutors who work for 10 years in this state-run body. For the trans-boundary organised criminal groups’ dismantling, the DIICOT prosecutors have intensified the international judicial cooperation with the foreign judicial authorities and have developed activities in the field of the organised crime and terrorism in collaboration with bodies from 55 countries.
DIICOT was established in 2004, by the Law no. 508/2004, with the purpose to dismantle the border and trans-boundary organised criminal groups. DIICOT is the single structure of the Public Ministry specialised in fighting and investigating organised crime and terrorism.
