Klaus Iohannis officially takes over the presidential prerogatives, Traian Basescu bids farewell from the Cotroceni Palace after 10 years

President Klaus Iohannis has taken over the term of head of state on Sunday, at the Cotroceni Palace. Klaus Iohannis and his wife, Carmen, arrived on Sunday at the Cotroceni Palace. The Guard Regiment saluted the new President during a military ceremony.
Subsequently, Iohannis was welcomed in the lobby of the Cotroceni Palace by Traian Basescu and his wife, Maria.
After this moment, the ceremony of handing over the Gold Necklace of the National Order ‘Star of Romania’ was held. Thus, upon ending his term in office, Traian Basescu, who has exercised the leadership of the National Order ‘Star of Romania’ – the oldest and the highest Romanian decoration, the symbol of national sovereignty, handed the President in office, Klaus Johannis, the Golden Necklace of the Order. Afterwards, Traian Basescu left the Cotroceni Palace after the military ceremony marking the end of his term in office. Basescu has left with his wife Maria and was welcomed upon exiting the Cotroceni Palace by numerous supporters.
