President Klaus Iohannis addresses sensitive Christmas message to Romanians living in Diaspora

In the Christmas message posted on his Facebook page, President  Klaus Iohannis addresses to the children whose parents are away from the country. “My beloved, Christmas is a celebration of family and children. However, in Romania there are the most children separated from their parents in the European Union. Forced to leave the country and work abroad, many parents see their children once or twice a year. Sometimes they see them after few years. Loneliness, abandonment, fear of tomorrow, lack of love transform the children left home in citizens who will hardly know to find a way in society. How to be generous and how to give love around them when no one taught them the soul warmth of a fireplace? Romanians who stayed in endless lines to vote me, in rain and cold, did so thinking also  to their children. They hoped that they will finally have a chance to return home and live a normal family life. I will do my best for families to get together during my tenure and to heal the wounds left by long separation. At Christmas, Christians gather around the Christmas tree, sing carols and eat goodies, honoring the birth of Baby Jesus in the manger in Bethlehem. My thoughts go in these days of celebration to all children whose parents are away, to all parents who are missing their children, to all Romanian families in the country and abroad. I wish you all Happy Christmas, confidence in the future and hope in the lives of all children of Romania, “reads the Christmas message of President Iohannis posted on his Facebook page.
