Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Gabriel Oprea has convened the National Committee for Special Emergency Situations at the Interior Ministry (MAI) headquarters on Sunday.
According to a MAI release remitted to Agerpres on Saturday, the committee meeting will be carried out in a videoconference system with the prefects and the representatives of the territorial structures in charge with public order and safety.
Most Romania’s counties, except for the north-western area, will be under Code Yellow for snowfalls, wind intensifications, mixed precipitations and glazed frost starting on Sunday evening, at 20,00 EET, until December 29, at 23,00 EET, according to a warning issued by the National Weather Administration (ANM).
According to meteorologists, in the abovementioned interval, starting on Sunday evening snowfalls will gradually blanket most part of Romania and in the south and south-east there will be heavy snowfalls, and a new thick layer of snow will collect. In the Danube Meadow and in Dobruja, there will be mixed precipitations and glaze frost will form.
In most parts of Muntenia, the northern half of Moldavia, Dobruja and in the east of Oltenia, the wind will intensify at times, with gusts of over 70 km/h, creating snowstorms and snow drifts.
Mures, Cluj, Salaj, Bihor, Satu Mare, Maramures and Bistrita-Nasaud are the only counties where the weather will not turn extreme in the mentioned period.

210 machines have intervened with antiskid material and snowploughs in Bucharest to remove the snow where necessary, according to a release of the Bucharest Municipality Hall (PMB) .The snow removing operators on the night of Friday to Saturday applied antiskid material treatments to combat glazed frost in the areas with slopes and ramps and bridges both during the night and early morning. Taking into account the temperature drop, the Municipality of Bucharest’s Social Assistance Directorate General (DGASMB) has continued the programme of providing shelter to the homeless.
The Bucharest City Hall put at the disposal of the people living in Bucharest a charge-free telephone number, 0800.800.868, for any kind of notifications concerning the utility companies.
CNANDR has constantly acted against the glazed frost and snow deposits on the roads of 31 counties
Romania’s National Roads and Motorways Corporation (CNADNR) constantly acted in the interval December 26, 17,00 hours – December 27, 12,00 hours, against the glazed frost and snow deposits on the roads of 31 counties nationwide, under the incidence of the Code Yellow for snowfalls and glazed frost, shows a release remitted to Agerpres on Saturday. According to the release, the counties in question were the following: Prahova, Dambovita, Arges, Valcea, Gorj, Mehedinti, Dolj, Olt, Teleorman, Ilfov, Giurgiu, Calarasi, Ialomita, Buzau, Braila, Tulcea, Constanta, Galati, Vrancea, Vaslui, Bacau, Neamt, Suceava, Bistrita – Nasaud, Mures, Harghita, Covasna, Brasov, Sibiu, Alba and Hunedoara.
“In all these counties, a number of 1,744 interventions with special snow removal machines were conducted. Moreover, 12,704.65 tonnes of antiskid material and 5.75 tonnes of calcium brine were spread on the the roadways. About 2,500 persons were engaged in the activity of snow removal from the motorways and national roads,” the cited release shows.
CNADNR will continue to operate 24 hours a day, constantly monitoring the road-weather conditions on all national road and motorway sectors and intervening as soon as required.
