President Klaus Iohannis has new institutional meeting with Prime Minister Victor Ponta

Prime Minister Victor Ponta went again on Monday at the Cotroceni Palace for talks with the President Klaus Iohannis. It is the second meeting between the two officials, the first one taking  place last week. Prime Minister Victor Ponta arrived at the Presidential Palace, immediately after the Government meeting, informs Romania TV.

Prime Minister’s unannounced  visit takes place as President Klaus Iohannis began on Monday at talks with two ministers of Ponta cabinet , Gabriel Oprea (Interior)  and Mircea Dusa (National Defence).

Tatiana Niculescu Bran, President Iohanis’s spokesperson has announced on Monday on her Facebook page that at the invitation of President Iohannis, on Monday and Tuesday would take place a series of meetings of Romania’s President  with the ministers Gabriel Oprea, Mircea Dusa and Bogdan Aurescu.

“There will be discussions on areas about the President is directly responsible, national security, defense and foreign policy, in a first contact with Ministers Gabriel Oprea, Mircea Dusa and Bogdan Aurescu activity, and with  the three ministries they lead”, wrote Mrs. Bran

Among the possible topics of discussions between the President and the Prime Minister there might be the appointments of intelligence services’ chiefs. After Teodor Melescanu’s resignation from the top of the Foreign Intelligence Service (SIE), three months ago, to run for Romania’s presidency, General Silviu Predoiu, SIE deputy director, has been appointed interim director of the institution. Regarding the  Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI), George Maior, its director, has said during the electoral campaign that he would submit his mandate to the new president.

In addition, as President Iohannis has repeatedly expressed his intention to recall the ambassadors from the countries where biggest problems with the Diaspora’s vote have been registered, it’s very possible also that one of the main topics of Iohannis-Ponta dialogue of today to be this issue. According to the law, Iohannis needs the Government’s agreement to recall the ambassadors.
