Philip Hammond, the State Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, will pay a visit to Bucharest on Wednesday, where he will meet his Romanian counterpart Bogdan Aurescu, informs a Romanian Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) press release remitted to Agerpres on Tuesday.
According to the cited source, the two officials will talk about the Romanian-British Strategic partnership, the economic cooperation, but also topics related to the international situation.
“In the context of celebrating 135 years of Romanian-British diplomatic relations, Minister Bogdan Aurescu and his British counterpart will have an opinion exchange on the modalities of optimally capitalizing the Strategic Partnership between the two countries, both on a political and on a sectoral level. During the talks, the two officials will also approach aspects regarding the intensification and diversification of the economic cooperation, on the grounds of the ascending trend over the past few years of the bilateral commercial relations, meant to contribute to thrusting the British investments in Romania,” MAE points out.
Moreover, the two ministers will also tackle topics such as the energy security, the free movement, the EU’s expansion policy and the relations with the Western Balkans, the dynamic of the Eastern Partnership from the stand of the recent developments in the eastern vicinity of the Union and the European path of the Republic of Moldova.
According to MAE, during the discussions, a special attention will be granted to the stage of implementing the conclusions of the NATO Summit of the UK, as well as to combating terrorism, the fight against ISIL, the situation in Syria and Egypt, the Iranian nuclear file and the situation in Afghanistan.
“The visit of the British Foreign Secretary represents a new opportunity for diversifying and strengthening the Romanian-British bilateral relations and contributes to the consolidation of the political-diplomatic dialogue between the two countries,” the release concludes.
Philip Hammond to be received by President Iohannis after the US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland
President Klaus Iohannis on Wednesday is set to receive the British Foreign Secretary at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace at 10:30 am, according to a press release of the Presidential Administration.
Before meeting Philip Hammond, President Iohannis will have another meeting at Cotroceni, with Victoria Nuland, the US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs.
