Air traffic on Bucharest’s two airports grew by 8.8 per cent last year, to a record level of 8.32 million passengers, while the number of takeoffs and landings grew by 6.3 per cent to 102,048, the Bucharest Airports National Company (CNAB) informs.
“The evolution of the number of passengers on the two airports belonging to the Bucharest Airports National Company (CNAB) surpasses the overall trend seen at European level. Moreover, Bucharest’s airports registered a substantial growth in the number of takeoffs and landings, surpassing the European trend from this point of view too,” a communiqué released by the company that manages the Henri Coanda and Baneasa-Aurel Vlaicu airports reads.
Of the total, the Henri Coanda Airport registered 8.31 million passengers and 91,788 takeoffs and landings.
Last year 83 per cent of Henri Coanda Airport’s passengers arrived from or departed to airports belonging to European Union member states.
The airport is currently used by 31 airline companies, which transport passengers to 70 destinations. Last year two new airline companies – Ryanair and Air Baltic – started to operate from the Henri Coanda Airport.
The Bucharest Airports National Company is subordinated to the Transport Ministry.
