President Iohannis’ spokesperson: Security measures taken for the Romanian delegation in Brussels

Belgian authorities assured all the necessary security measures were taken for Romanian President Klaus Iohannis and his delegation during their visit to Brussels, presidential spokesperson Tatiana Niculescu Bran told media on Thursday.

Belgian authorities cooperate with the Romanian Protection and Guard Service (SPP), she mentioned.

Belgian police carried out a massive anti-terrorist operation on Thursday against a group of individuals who had returned from Syria and were preparing a ‘wide scale terrorist attack’; the police killed two alleged jihadists, according to Belgium’s federal prosecutors quoted by Reuters, DPA and AFP.

The President of Romania is on an official visit to Brussels on Thursday and Friday; he met European Council President Donald Tusk and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker on Thursday. His Friday agenda includes a meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
