Agro-food trade surplus of half a billion Euros in the first ten months of 2014

The Agriculture Ministry has informed us that Romania has registered an agro-food trade surplus of EUR 496.5 M in the first ten months of 2014, up by EUR 314.5 M compared to the same period the year before.

In January-October 2014, agro-food exports totaled EUR 4,488.9 M, up by EUR 397 M year-on-year (+9.7 per cent), while imports totaled EUR 3,992.4 M, up by EUR 82.5 M (+2.1 per cent) year-on-year. Wheat, cigarettes, maize and sunflower seeds, four products that have the biggest shares in total exports, contributed to the surplus registered. Trade surpluses were also registered mainly in the case of wheat (+EUR 66.7 M), maize (+EUR 67.3 M), live sheep and goats (+EUR 28.9 M) and nuts (+EUR 19.8 M). Compared to the first ten months of 2013, the exports of sunflower seeds and sunflower oil dropped by EUR 100.9 M and EUR 21.3 M respectively. Poultry exports also dropped (-EUR 15.1 M).
