Social Democrats agree with the Liberals on emergency session of Parliament for private insolvency law

In the context of the continuous appreciation of the Swiss Franc, PNL has requested the convening of an emergency session of Parliament to adopt the private insolvency law, the “single regulation” that can help and can be implemented immediately, announced on Monday,  PNL co-chair, Alina Gorghiu. “Urgent measures are needed, to offer both a legal framework for the future, and a solution to the current social situation, to give to the bank customer the opportunity for a new start, “says Alina Gorghiu in a press release in the context of the rise of the Swiss Franc rate announced by the National Bank of Romania on Monday at 4.4716 lei / franc.

PNL believes that “the individual insolvency law is the only regulation that can put the clients in inability to pay the installments in the position of not being foreclosed and to bring to an end their contracts with the bank, which is beneficial for both sides. The National Liberal Party has supported this bill for a long time, but unfortunately, a parliamentary majority opposed. Personal bankruptcy law provides the client, who is in inability to pay his monthly installments, a rescheduling solution and correct installments negotiated with the bank, based on the income that he gets. Unlike other proposed regulations that do not operate retrospectively, this measure can be implemented immediately,” reads the PNL release.

Chamber of Deputies Chair Valeriu Zgonea says his Social Democrat Party (PSD) agrees with the call of the National Liberal Party (PNL)  for an emergency session of the Parliament, to debate a law on individual insolvency.
‘If there is a request from PNL, PSD definitely agrees. I have also talked with PM Victor Ponta, the leader of our party; I’m in favour. If the request is submitted to the Standing Bureau of the Chamber, we will gladly approve it,’ Zgonea declared at the Parliament Palace on Monday.
He mentioned the procedure proposed by the Liberals is to be discussed.

In turn, PM Victor Ponta announced on Monday he supports the motion of PNL Co-Chair Alina Gorghiu for an emergency convening of the Parliament for the private insolvency law.The Parliament sitting will take place on Wednesday.
