Former State Secretary in the Ministry of Justice, suspected of corruption

Ovidiu Putura, former State Secretary in the Ministry of Justice was carried on Tuesday to the headquarters of the Anticorruption National Directorate (DNA) with an arrest warrant in order to be questioned by the prosecutors regarding a corruption file.

Ovidiu Putura is suspected of influence peddling and bribe taking. The first case seems to be related to solving a civil file and possible interventions favouring a person that was about to be admitted, as a result of a contest, a position of notary on probation. In the second case, Ovidiu Putura allegedly promised that, due to his position in the Ministry of Justice and with the help of a civil servant, he may influence the members of the examining committees in the Public Notaries Chamber.

Ovidiu Putura (PNL), a judge and a former Head of the Legal Charges Department in the Ministry of Justice was named State Secretary in the Ministry of Justice on May 17, 2012. After accusations filed by the Supreme Council of Magistracy (CSM) for having been simultaneously a member in the CFR Administration Board and a judge, he was dismissed from his position at the Ministry of Justice by PM Victor Ponta last year, on February 24.
