The Head of the Timis County Police Department (IPJ), Sorin Muntean, and his deputy Florin Bolbos were arrested and carried on Monday evening at the Anticorruption National Directorate (DNA) headquarters after almost a day of office searches by prosecutors. The DNA investigators came from the early hours at the office of IPJ Timis, accompanied by the masked officers of the Gendarmerie.
DNA also questioned two officers of the Road Traffic Department, accused of bribe giving in order to be promoted to a higher rank. After the hearings, they were arrested for the next 24 hours. Also the Mayor of Recas, Teodor Pavel, ended up in the arrest of IPJ Timis. The five police officers appeared yesterday in front of magistrates and a preventive arrest warrant was requested against them.
In the same file, on Monday evening, DNA prosecutors ordered the arrest of Chief Officer of the Timis Road Traffic Police Department, Marcel Craciunescu, as well as that of the Chief Officer of Recas Police Department, Doru Berzescu. Thus, the number of police officers arrested in this case of corruption, went up to a total of eight.
