A 17-year old girl from Deva, Alexandra Marcu, climbed together with her father the world’s highest volcano, Ojos del Salado (6,893 m) in Chile. The climbing took 14 hours. The girl and the father are expected back home at the beginning of February. ‘We have reached the highest volcano in the world! Thank you, Romania, thank you all who have been there for us!’ Alexandra wrote on Facebook. The 17-year old Hunedoara teenager is at her sixth expedition out of the seven enrolled for the circuit of the highest volcanoes on each continent and wants to become the third female climber in the world to complete the famous circuit.

The climbing of Ojos del Salado, situated at the border between Argentine and Chile, is deemed as one of the most difficult in the world as the peak is in the most arid region on the globe, the Atacama desert. Alexandra Marcu is known for her climbing the most important volcanoes on Terra. She is the youngest European climber to have conquered Pico de Orizaba (Mexico) as well as the youngest Romanian to have climbed the Kazbek massif in Georgia.
