The executive chairman of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), Liviu Dragnea, stated, on Wednesday evening, that the main reason for which Mircea Geoana and Marian Vanghelie were expelled from the party was that they sabotaged the activity ongoing during the presidential election campaign, it being “the straw that broke the camel’s back” due to “several reasons” that appeared previously.
“There were many reasons, but the most important reason was what we all knew, which is the straw broke the camel’s back, namely that during the European Parliament and Presidential election campaigns, Marian Vanghelie did not work for the party, doing quite the opposite, and during the presidential campaign Mircea Geoana too had the same position. They had meetings with those in PNL-PDL [the National Liberal Party – the Democratic Liberal Party], Marian Vanghelie asked some to gather signatures for some candidate in the elections to the European Parliament. All of this was known. Also during the election campaign, when everybody was connected to the presidential elections, they were calling the leaders in the counties in order to discuss what happens to the party afterwards. These things were said in the National Executive Committee meeting. They firstly said no. After several county leaders confirmed this, they obviously had nothing more to say,” said Dragnea at private television broadcaster Realitatea TV.
Asked if he can say that the two sabotaged the party, he confirmed. “I am not saying this, it’s a certainty, everybody knew this, because otherwise there wouldn’t have been (…), with two exceptions, a unanimous vote in the National Executive Committee”, said Dragnea.
He then gave an example of a message sent by Marian Vanghelie to the leaders in the counties, for the new party. “I receive daily the messages that my colleagues in the counties receive from Marian Vanghelie: ‘Good morning, Mr. President, would you be interested in a new challenge in your political career? I have heard at the central headquarters only good things about you and in the near future I want you in my team to form the new PSD. Marian Vanghelie.’ He doesn’t even call them by name, but Mr. President from whichever county. This one was from Mehedinti”, said Liviu Dragnea.
According to him, the people do not take seriously these discussions and the proposals of Mircea Geoana. “I understood that Mircea Geoana met with Mrs. Nuland and Mrs. Nuland told him to take down the government. Of course that the American Embassy came out and corrected this lie told by Mircea Geoana. First they said they wanted to create a party, then they said that they don’t want to create a party anymore, but that they will generate this revolt inside the party. The PSD in an overwhelming majority is interested now in the governing act, both on the central level and on the local level and what our local elected officials have to do in the future, namely to continue the projects started in 2012, 2013 and 2014. And that is what we are doing. We have a National Executive Committee meeting at the end of the month, where we have meetings with the parliamentary groups, we have a National Council, and we want to take care as much as possible of the governing act, because governing means doing things for people. I don’t believe that a person will feel better if we sit and answer to what Geoana and Vanghelie have to say,” said the PSD executive chairman.
