Viorel Hrebenciuc and his son, Tudor Chiuariu and Ioan Adam, arraigned in court in restitutions case

Viorel Hrebenciuc, his son Andrei Hrebenciuc, former minister Tudor Chiuariu, MP Ioan Adam and 13 other persons have been arraigned in court by National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) prosecutors in the case concerning the illegal restitution of forests. The case was registered yesterday at the High Court of Justice.

Former PSD MP Viorel Hrebenciuc, his son Andrei Hrebenciuc, PSD MP Ioan Adam, businessman Gheorghe Sturdza and Senator Tudor Chiuariu are prosecuted in the case concerning illegal restitution of forests.

Viorel Hrebenciuc, currently under preventive arrest, is accused of forming and coordinating, alongside Ioan Adam, Paltin Gheorghe Sturdza and Bengescu Dan Costin, a group that sought to obtain revenues by offering bribes, buying influence and illegally using influence in order to hasten the process of restitution and sale of a plot of land of 43,227 hectares obtained through court ruling number 231/R/2012, ruling issued by the Covasna Court.

Andrei Hrebenciuc, Viorel Hrebenciuc’s son, is investigated in the same case and is under house arrest.

Senator Tudor Chiuariu is prosecuted in the case concerning the restitution of large surfaces of forests. According to the prosecutors, as a lawyer Tudor Chiuariu allegedly asked for money in exchange for interceding with the Bacau Prefect in order to obtain the restitution of a forest. According to judicial sources, the Senator allegedly asked for EUR 2 M. The sum was allegedly demanded from Paltin Gheorghe Sturdza and was “masked” in the form a lawyer’s fee.
