President Iohannis: The memory of the victims of Holocaust stays with us as a painful warning of history

President Klaus Iohannis sees the memory of the victims of Holocaust as a painful warning of history.

‘Seventy years ago, the prisoners of the extermination camp of Auschwitz ere liberated. I have bestowed the Faithful Service Order in the rank of Knight upon several Romanian survivors. The decorating ceremony today, at the Cotroceni Palace, is a respectful homage to all the victims of the Holocaust of World War II. Their memory stays with us as a painful warning of history,’ the President wrote on his Facebook page on the International Holocaust Remembrance Day on Tuesday.

The decorating ceremony of Holocaust survivors is scheduled at 4pm at the Cotroceni Palace, the President’s official residence.

The head of state had signed the decoration decree on Friday.

According to a release of the Presidential Administration, ‘to show the deep respect for the sufferance endured during World War II in the concentration camps of Auschwitz-Birkenau, wishing to keep alive the memory of the Holocaust – a tragedy mankind must not know again,’ the President bestowed the Order of Faithful Service in the rank of Knight upon Elizabeta Asztalos, Gabriela Bone, Viora Braun, Susana Diamantstein, Marta Marmor, Vasile Szekely and Etelca Tusa.

The decoration was proposed by presidential advisor Andrei Muraru.
