Minister of Foreign Affairs Bogdan Aurescu on Saturday had a meeting with Celeste A. Wallander, Special Assistant to the US President Barack Obama for Russia and Eurasia on the National Security Council in the White House, on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference on international security policy.
The two officials had an exchange of opinions regarding the existing Strategic Partnership between Romania and the US and the security situation in the immediate vicinity of our country, as well as in the Black Sea region.
Bogdan Aurescu highlighted the important of maintaining an intensified pace in high level bilateral agreements, especially in the context of the anniversary this year of 135 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties between Romania and the US.
“The Romanian diplomacy chief presented the current stage of the bilateral project of the deployment of the Aegis Ashore antimissile facility at the Deveselu Military Base to become operational in 2015, as part of the NATO’s capabilities in what concerns defence against ballistic missiles,” says MAE in the release.
The two high ranked officials also discussed in detail existing prospects for solving crisis in Ukraine, considering efforts so far in this sense.
Moreover, they also mentioned the necessity to create a pro-European government in Chisinau as soon as possible, to continue with efforts in getting closer to EU.
The US official thanked Romania for its assessments and involvement in the abovementioned topical issues.
