Swiss Franc loans crisis: New protests for conversion of forex loans

Over a thousand citizens from Bucharest, Galati, Braila and Calarasi took part on Sunday in a protest meeting in Bucharest’s Constitution Square, asking the Government, the Lower Chamber, the National Bank and all commercial banks to convert forex-denominated loans, namely CHF-, EUR- and USD-denominated loans, into RON-denominated loans.

“The only signal we have received from authorities in the last two weeks has come from the MPs that took part in the meeting of the Budget-Finances Commission. Basically the legislators announced that if the Romanian Banking Association does not resolve the situation then Parliament will issue a law that will seriously affect banks. We want a decision to be taken at high level in the following period, one that would regulate the case of persons that contracted Swiss Franc-denominated loans,” Daniel Teodorescu, member of the Group of Clients with CHF-denominated Loans that organized the protest, stated on Sunday for Agerpres.
