Chamber of Deputies approves arrest of MP Elena Udrea

The Chamber of Deputies approved the arrest of former minister Elena Udrea, MP in several secret votes late on Monday night.

Six requests of the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA)  concerning Udrea passed the plenum vote – three approvals of criminal investigations and the corresponding permissions to take her into custody.

The first DNA request was her prosecution in the Gala Bute case, the second was the expansion to include bribe-taking also in the Gala Bute case, the third one was the arrest request for Gala Bute, the forth was prosecution in the Microsoft case on the public acquisition of software licenses, the fifth was the detention and arrest request in the Microsoft case and the sixth one iwas the request to change the judicial control measure into arrest also in the ‘Microsoft case’.

Elena Udrea is expected today at the DNA headquarters for hearings.

Deputy Elena Udrea says the Parliament missed ‘an opportunity’ by voting to approve her investigation and arrest late on Monday night. She claimed she assumed her destiny. ‘The topic should not be my fate, but how Romania will look ruled from the shadow, in a discretionary and occult way, once truth is suppressed,’ Udrea wrote on her Facebook page.
