PSD MEP Catalin Ivan at war with party colleagues

MEP Catalin Ivan is at war with his party colleagues. He declared that the Head of the PSD Delegation in the European Parliament (EP), Viorica Dancila, was “made to lie” in order to discredit him.

Catalin Ivan claimed that the accusations of PSD members of the European Parliament, made at the Social Democrat Group, are part of his inside conflict of PSD, between him and the executive President of the party, Liviu Dragnea.

“Ms. Viorica Dancila was made to lie in order to discredit me in any way”,  Catalin Ivan declared, quoted by Mediafax.

PSD members of the European Parliament :  Ivan’s absences from SD Group create serious issues to Romania’s delegation

PSD MEPs claimed that Catalin Ivan’s recent lack of attendance to the activities of the Group and of the PSD delegation in EP affects the activity of the delegation and invite him to honestly fulfil his responsibilities as a member of the European Parliament.

The delegation of the Romanian MEPs in the Social-Democrat Group declared in a press release, that, for a long time, Euro-Deputy Catalin Ivan failed to show up for the activities of the SD Group and those of the PSD delegation in the European Parliament, “thus jeopardizing the proper functioning of the activity of the delegation in its entirety”, Mediafax reports.

“Mr. Ivan’s constant absences from the activities of the Budget Control Committee caused serious damage to the delegation and vulnerability concerning Romania, generating discussions about possible sanctions in using European funds”, the press release states.

PSD MEPS declare that they are “terribly concerned by Mr. Ivan’s complete lack of activity as a member of the Delegation at the EU – Russia Cooperation Parliamentary Committee, under the circumstances that discussions on the relation of the EU with the Russian Federation most serious with direct consequences on Romania”.

They also invite Catalin Ivan “to honestly fulfil his responsibilities as a Social-Democrat member of the European Parliament”.

Ivan defends himself saying that he is not a member of the Budget Control Committee and that, as a result, the appreciations made by Viorica Dancila related to him represent “a lie”. “I am a mere deputy. A full member at the Vice-President of the Budget Control Committee is Mr. Dan Nica. Dan Nica was never absent at any meeting, so I had no reason to replace him”, Catalin Ivan outlined.

At the end of last month, Catalin Ivan who has repeatedly expressed his intention to run for the PSD chairmanship at the next Congress, was replaced as Head of PSD District 1 with Dan Tudorache.

Tudorache: Ivan is a second Elena Udrea

Tudorache on Friday wrote on his Facebook page that “Ivan is a second Elena Udrea—he talks about everything, he accuses everybody but forgets to evaluate his own conduct”.

“Ivan has to understand that the party that has sent him to Brussels twice, with a very high wage and in an important position, deserves much more respect. He hasn’t been elected by uninominal vote, he does not represent himself there and a few voters, it is for this reason why his statements should be more balanced and less aggressive. PSD District 1 Organization observes the right to free expression and the diversity of opinions, but these have to be decent and without harming colleagues, all the more as all that you’ve got from a political point of view is owed to the colleagues”.
