Ranger Battalion 33 Posada left for Afghanistan ready to join the Resolute Support Mission

The National Defence minister, Mircea Dusa alongside the Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Nicolae Ciuca on Friday participated in the ceremony of taking off for a new mission to Afghanistan of the military with the Ranger Battalion 33 Posada, in Curtea de Arges (southern Arges County).

“If, last year a battalion with the Craiova garrison was completing an ISAF mission, now it is the time that a Curtea de Arges battalion has the honour to start a new mission in the theatre of operations in Afghanistan, the Resolute Support mission. You are veterans of the theatres of operations, you are very well trained military, you are professionals, you have worthy commanders and I’m certain that in your new mission, you will accomplish the mission’s goals as they were negotiated with our US partners,” the minister told the military.

The commander of the Ranger Battalion 33 Posada, Lieutenant Colonel Florin Corneliu Soltuz appreciated in his turn the professionalism of his military in the previous missions abroad.

The 420 troops of the Ranger Battalion 33 Posada will be deployed over March 15 – September 15 in the theatres of operations in Afghanistan where they will perform peace-keeping actions for the protection of the military base of Kandahar, the advising of the Afghan security forces and the accomplishment of a security climate necessary to the political and social stability.

The Curtea de Arges’s rangers have participated in four international missions in the theatres of operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. During these missions, the battalion lost five of its military, in 2007 and 2010, respectively, Agerpres reports.
