Answering press allegations that quoted a false trade union leader, Hidroelectrica’s press bureau emphasizes: “The technical state of Portile de Fier 1 dam and its equipment is not jeopardizing in any way the operation of the energy groups, the dam, the personnel or the downstream population and objectives.”
Moreover, considering the special importance of Portile de Fier 1 dam, the site is monitored along with the Serbian side through the Constructions Behaviour Monitoring Commission (CUCC). This commission’s latest report shows that the dam is in technical conditions that allow it to be safely operated.
The existing fissures and infiltrations, the company points out, which are in fact common in the case of such constructions, do not jeopardize the safe operation of the dam and of the mechanical hydro-electric equipment, a fact that has been established through assessments, permits and the conclusions of the CUCC.
In the last 15 years Hidroelectrica has earmarked RON 1.7 bln (over EUR 400 M) for the hydro-energy improvement of the Portile de Fier 1 and Portile de Fier 2 dams, the improvement works consisting of technological upgrade and maintenance works, equipments and hydro-technical constructions.
