Romanian tennis player Simona Halep claimed the victory in the Dubai Tennis Championships final, defeating Karolina Pliskova (Czech Republic) in two sets 6-4, 7-6 (7/4), in a one-hour and 47-minute match.
With this win that secures her 900 WTA points and 456,000 US dollars, Halep claims the 10th title in her career and the second this year after the Shenzhen tournament.
This was the first meeting of the pair, where top-seed Halep resiliently gained the upper hand over the less experienced, 17th seed Pliskova.
Simona Halep qualified for the final of the Dubai Tennis Championships, a tournament with a prize fund of $2,513,000, after defeating Denmark’s Caroline Wozniacki 2-6, 6-1, 6-1. After struggling at the start of the match, Halep resurged and ended with a sweeping victory.
World No. 4 and UAE top seed Halep has played her second final this year, after the title won in Shenzhen (China).
The advancement to the semis brought Halep a cheque of 227,860 US dollars and 585 WTA points.
