Film director Mihnea Gheorghe Columbeanu on Tuesday was sentenced by the judges from the Bucharest Court to 26 years and 4 months in prison, in a case operated by the Directorate for Investigating Organised Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) prosecutors, involving child pornography, trafficking of children and rape.
Columbeanu received several sentences for child pornography offenses and sexual aggression. The heaviest was a 6-year detention sentence, to be added a third of the total number of detention years cumulated by his other sentences, that is 20 years and 4 months in prison, which means that in the end he will have to remain in prison for 26 years and 4 months.
Gabriela Ionescu, mother of one of the victims, was also sentenced to 9 years and 4 months detention in the same case, for committing several offenses such as abetting the production of child pornography.
The court also ruled that Mihnea Columbeanu and Gabriela Ionescu must pay jointly to Andreea Ionescu the lei equivalent of 25,000 euros and also 5,000 euros each to each of the other six victims.
The decision is not final and can be challenged in court., Agerpres reports.
Film director Mihnea Columbeanu was held into custody on July 31, 2014, on counts of child pornography, trafficking of children and rape, and also for repeatedly allowing a minor to come to his home and repeatedly offering this minor shelter, since she was 7-year 4-month old and until she reached 11 years and 3 months, for the purpose of sexually exploiting her.
‘The defendant forced the minor to have oral sex and to do other things with sexual meaning, while taking advantage of the child’s inability to express her will and also by offering money and other benefits to her mother. The sexual exploitation of the minor also included the production of pornographic materials with the victim in it,’ said the prosecutors.
Moreover, the director was accused of having had sexual relations with a 9-year old on February 5, 2013, while taking advantage of the child’s inability to express her will, as well as of the moral constraint she was submitted to her by her mother, Gabriela Ionescu.
Moreover, director Mihnea Gheorghe Columbeanu was charged by the DIICOT prosecutors of using his Internet connection over February 15, 2014, July 17, 2014, at his home in Bucharest, with the user ID being Mike, to repeatedly access, while having no right to do it, pornographic materials showing minors, via the P2P network, which materials he stored and then made them available for the other users of the network.
There were no less than 2,731 data transfer operations conducted over May 18 – June 5, 2014, from the director’s Internet connection, containing child pornography materials. Mihnea Columbeanu also made available to the other users in the public space, over July 6-15, 2014, via the same Internet application, a number of 31,036 files with child pornography.
While conducting a search at the director’s home, the prosecutors found several information systems and data storage devices, such as 12 hard disks, 4 memory-sticks and 1,331 DVDs and CDs.
