ICCJ: Prime Minister’s brother -in-law remains in preventive arrest

Iulian Hertanu, Prime Minister Victor Ponta’s brother-in-law, remains in preventive arrest, after the judges of the High Court of Cassation and Justice (ICCJ) rejected his appeal on Friday.

Moreover, businessman Vladimir Razvan Ciorba also remains in preventive arrest.

Iulian Hertanu was placed under preventive arrest on February 18, within a National Anti-corruption Directorate (DNA) criminal prosecution procedure in a case concerning the fraud of a contract funded from European funds.

According to the DNA, Iulian Hertanu, shareholder at SC Grossman Engineering Group SRL, is charged with committing the offenses of establishment of an organised crime group, illegal change of European funds destination and tax evasion.

The same accusations were held against businessmen Mihail Marian Coman and Vladimir Razvan Ciorba.

Mircea Cosma, Prahova County Council President, and Deputies Vlad Cosma and Sebastian Ghita are under investigation in the same case, subject to legal restrictions.
