Prime Minister Victor Ponta on Saturday congratulated Romania’s Ambassador to the UK Ion Jinga, after the latter was awarded the title “Diplomat of the Year 2015,” within an event hosted by the House of Commons.
“Congratulations to Ion Jinga for the ‘Diplomat of the Year 2015′ award received in the House of Commons’ event ‘Political and Public Life Awards 2015′,” the Prime Minister wrote on Twitter.
Romania’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom Ion Jinga on Thursday was awarded the “Diplomat of the Year 2015” title, within “Political and Public Life Awards 2015,” an event that took place in the House of Commons, organised by Asian Voice British magazine and hosted by Keith Vaz, Chairman of the Home Affairs Select Committee of the House of Commons, Romania’s Embassy to the UK informed on Friday.
The event in which Romania’s Deputies’ Chamber Speaker Valeriu Zgonea received the “European Understanding Award” enjoyed the presence of over 300 persons, members of the British Government, British and foreign MPs, culture figures, diplomats, businessmen, artists and journalists.

Thanking for the title of “Diplomat of the Year 2015” and for the words of appreciation for his work, the Romanian ambassador said: “It’s a huge privilege to serve my country as ambassador to the United Kingdom. I see in this award a recognition of the professionalism of Romanian diplomacy as a whole and a confirmation of the excellent relations between Romania and the UK. Being ambassador in London is both an opportunity and a challenge, because London is a center of global diplomacy, a meeting point of the most important axes of global interests, and the UK is now one of Romania’s best friends, partners and allies in Europe. ”
