Nuclearelectrica: Canada’s Candu joins project on reactors 3 and 4

The Energy Ministry announces that the negotiations with China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGN), the investor selected to develop the project on constructing reactors 3 and 4 of the Cernavoda nuclear power plant, will continue in the following period. Romanian officials are optimistic and foresee positive attitude from the Chinese partners of dialogue.

At the same time, the Ministry pointed out that Canada’s Candu has also expressed some interest in this project, the company representatives joining the Chinese negotiation team.

As is well known, Cernavoda nuclear power plant’s reactors 1 and 2 are Candu reactors.

The cost of constructing reactors 3 and 4 was estimated last October at EUR 6.45 bln, however the feasibility study on the basis of which that figure was established will be revised.
