MEP Cristian Preda, formerly a member of the People’s Movement Party (PMP), denounces the alliance made by his former PMP colleagues with PP-DD, which he calls ‘scandalous’.
‘Although I am no longer a member of PMP, I consider that the association of the party with PP-DD is scandalous. As an EP member, I requested PMP’s affiliation to EPP, which was finalised last autumn, the list I opened in the European election sending two members to the European Parliament’, Cristian Preda writes on Facebook.
After Elena Udrea’s arrest – says the MEP – although he had been banished from the party, they blamed him for ‘PMP’s presence in the European People’s Party family whose programme includes fight against corruption’.
‘Now the party the president of which is under arrest (Elena Udrea is no longer PMP President – editor’s note), on suspicion of corruption, chooses to associate itself with a populist party the founder of which has been convicted for blackmail. It is obvious that EPP’s values are being trampled under foot’ – is Preda’s conclusion.
The PMP MPs decided on Wednesday to merge with the National Democratic Party (PND), the former PP-DD, in the Chamber of Deputies and operate as a single political Democrat and Popular political group, with each of the two parties keeping their respective political identities.
