Romania’s team is leading Israel 2-0 after the first day of the Davis Cup, courtesy of the tennis player Marius Copil who has defeated Dudi Sela 6-7 (3), 7-6 (3), 6-4, 6-2, on Friday evening, in the Transilvania Hall in Sibiu (rd 272 km north-west of Bucharest), in the first round of the competition, Group I of Europe-Africa zone.
President Iohanis: I will be in attendance at one of the matches, to support team Romania on site
President Klaus Iohannis announced on Friday on his Facebook account that he will be in the stands of the venue to watch one of the Davis Cup tennis matches opposing the teams of Romania and Israel, to be played in Sibiu.
“These days, my home town of Sibiu is host to several tennis matches between Romania and Israel in the Davis Cup championship. I will be in attendance at one of the matches, to support team Romania on site. I admire the rigor and precision required by this sport and I’m glad I will thus be able to be at the side of Romania’s representatives, at the ‘Transilvania’ Sports Hall of Sibiu,” Iohannis wrote.
He wishes lots of luck to team Romania made up of Adrian Ungur, Marius Copil, Horia Tecau and Florin Mergea.
Romania and Israel are scheduled to play against each other over March 6 – 8 at the ‘Transylvania’ Hall of Sibiu in the first round of the Davis Cup Europe-Africa Zone Group I, Agerpres reports.
