Romania has defeated Israel with 3-0 in the tennis Davis Cup, after the doubles match between Florin Mergea/Horia Tecau and cup Bar Tzuf Botzer/Edan Leshem ended 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 on Saturday.
The match in the first round of the first round of the Group I Europe / Africa of the competition was hosted by the Transylvania Hall of Sibiu (central Romania), the hometown of President Klaus Iohannis. He was in the audience, as promised since Friday, accompanied by his wife Carmen.
In the singles matches on Friday, Romania’s Adrian Ungur defeated Israel Bar Tzuf Botzer 7-5, 6-3, 6-0, and Marius Copil managed 6-7 (3), 7-6 (3), 6-4, 6-2 against Dudi Sela.
In the second round scheduled in Bucharest on July 17-19, Romania will meet Slovakia .
