Ex-President Traian Basescu has posted a message on Facebook where he mentions the possibility that, in some cases, the prosecutors might have made an abuse, most likely hinting at his protégé Elena Udrea, currently remanded in custody in the Gala Bute case since 25 February. Udrea, a former Regional Development Minister, was charged with three bribery offences, attempted use of false, inaccurate or incomplete documents and statements for unduly obtaining funds from the budget of the European Union and using her influence for obtaining undue benefits.
‘I hope you don’t mind me reminding you of a statement I made on 01.05.2014 – EVZ special edition on B1 TV, and I quote: <Things are therefore getting complicated. I’m not saying this as a threat, you can have my word on that.
I know how much and how the state’s capacity to cope with corruption has grown. No one of those who steal should rest assured. It is my recommendation. They shouldn’t rest assured, because the institutions of the state are becoming increasingly effective’.
It doesn’t mean that, at this point, I rule out errors or abuse’, Traian Basescu wrote on his Facebook page.
Elena Udrea’s communication team: Investigators’ discretionary action in ‘Gala Bute’ case also visible from an airplane
As far as Elena Udrea is concerned, she has continued via her communication team, on Facebook, the series of attacks on the DNA prosecutors. In her latest posting, the ex-minister denounces ‘the investigators’ discretionary action’ in the Gala Bute case and claims ‘the criminal investigation is very slow’.
Elena Udrea says again she is DNA’s ‘target’ in a message posted by her communication team on Facebook.
“Investigators’ discretionary action in Gala Bute case visible also from an airplane’
Whilst Elena Udrea and all those who have not testified against her are under arrest, the people who paid the bribes and those who took the bribes (only because they tried to blame the ex-minister) are free.
Unlike in the case of Elena Udrea’s preventive arrest, where the necessary steps were expedited as her incarceration was deemed ‘urgent’, nothing is happening with regard to the request made by the defence. The criminal investigation is slow.
Since over two weeks ago, Udrea has been asking for confrontations with her accusers, something that has not happened to this time, although it would have been a good opportunity to clarify things. Moreover, the prosecutors seem focused on administering only evidence against the ex-ministers, not also in her favour. Under such conditions, the impression is strengthened that Elena Udrea is a target and that they want to keep her under arrest in order to silence her to the detriment of the serving of justice”, is the message signed by Elena Udrea’s communication team.
