Demography: Negative natural growth in 2015 too

The population’s natural growth was negative in January 2015 – 7,662 persons after their number stood at 6,030 persons in January 2014 – according to the provisional data published on Tuesday by the National Statistics Institute (INS).

According to the data, in the first month of this year the number of live births was higher by 187 year-on-year, while the number of deaths was higher by 1,819 year-on-year.

Likewise, the number of newborn deaths was higher by 22 year-on-year.

In January 2015 the number of marriages was higher by 386 year-on-year, while the number of divorces was higher by 48 year-on-year.

The INS data also shows that in January 2015 the number of births and the number of deaths rose month-on-month, just like the number of newborn deaths.

Likewise, 16,740 births were registered in the first month of this year, higher by 2,043 month-on-month.

Moreover, the number of persons whose deaths were registered in January 2015 stood at 24,402, higher by 126 month-on-month.
