DNA detains Alina Bica’s lawyer Laura Voicu

The National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) on Thursday detained Laura Voicu, defence lawyer to disgraced former chief prosecutor of the Directorate for Investigating Organised Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) Alina Bica over aiding and abetting and instigating to the unlawful conduct of a profession or activity.

She is expected to be brought before the Bucharest Court of Appeal, which will rule on a DNA demand for her to be placed under pre-trial detention for 30 days.

In the same case, a criminal investigation was also ordered of Niculae Learciu for unlawful conduct of a profession or activity, Agerpres reports.

In a press release issued on Thursday, DNA reported that Laura Voica, the chosen defense lawyer of defendant Deaconu Georgia Ioana, on remand in a case built by corruption prosecutors, knowing that Niculae Lerciu was not legally a lawyer, as he was registered in a so-called Constitutional Bar, appointed him to take part in the criminal probe that was to be conducted in relation to court case 189/ P/ 2012, as well as in other cases, repeatedly.
